Five Hundred and Seventeen (517) recruits of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Friday, June 4, 2021 have passed out after undergoing three (3) months of intensive tuition, practical attachment and training in vital areas of fire prevention and management at the Fire Academy and Training School in Accra.
The recruits were taken through lessons in fire science operation, fire safety, first Aid, foot drills, and physical training to meet fire prevention and management standards.
Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs. Adelaide Anno-Kumi, who was also the Reviewing Officer at the ceremony reiterated Government’s commitment of retooling the Service with the aim of transforming it into an institution capable of delivering world class fire and rescue service.
“I wish to assure the men and women of this noble Service of Government’s commitment to equip the Ghana National Fire Service with modern firefighting equipment to ensure effective fire management in the Country”, she said.
She commended the Service for the sacrifices and dedication to duty amidst the challenges which confront them, adding that despite these challenges, the Service has performed creditably well in the Fire Management of fires throughout the Country.
Mrs. Anno-Kumi urged the Service to engage more with the public and to educate the general public on its mode operations, so as to earn their support and confidence.
She advised the recruits to demonstrate utmost commitment in the discharge of their duties to humanity and in the spirit of self-sacrifice.
Awards were presented to deserving recruits, with Recruit Fire Woman, Sylvia Enoynam Bauku receiving the Overall Best Award.
