At the passing out ceremony of the 687 City Response Team, under the Operation Clean Your Frontage, the Hon. Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, charged the City Response Team to work hard and enforce by-laws to ensure that the objective of Operation Clean Your Frontage is achieved.
The Minister also urged the City Response Team to work within the confines of the law and see the citizenry as partners and endeavour to improve upon their relationship with them so that they can get the support of the citizens and perform their work well.
According to him, discipline, and a clean, green, safe and peaceful environment are very important to the country’s development and that the visual appearance of communities especially the urbanized communities is critical to among other things attract tourists, and investors and promote the wellbeing of the citizenry.
Hon. Ambrose Dery explained that the strategic initiative dubbed ‘Let’s Make Greater Accra Work’ is a transformational agenda that seeks to mobilise and empower all urban actors to practically and sustainably respond to the region’s waste management and sanitation challenges and also create opportunities for sustainable urban and economic growth in the context of enhanced security, clean and green environment, public-private partnership and good urban governance.
He stated that Agenda ‘Let’s Make Greater Accra Work’ is in response to His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa and that one of the interventions under the Agenda is Operation Clean Your Frontage campaign which would make it mandatory for property owners of residential, private and public institutions and the citizenry to clean and green their frontage and all open spaces around their properties.
Under the Agenda he said, the City Response Team will enforce the road traffic regulations concerning the ban of motorized tricycle ‘Aboboya’ on principal streets and receive calls on complaints or reports from the public to be directed to the appropriate quarters.
The Minister added that the Team will also enforce the Cleaning and Greening of the frontage of buildings bye-laws under the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ campaign, sensitise people on the need to change their attitude, adopt practices to keep the environment clean, assist the Security Agencies monitor and implement sanitation and road traffic regulations.
Hon. Ambrose Dery assured the good people of Ghana that Government is committed to sustaining the peace and security in the country to enable citizens to go about doing their business safely and also attract investment into the country.
He commended the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council under the able leadership of the Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey and their partners for the initiative. He urged them to put in place protocols to constantly monitor and evaluate the Agenda to address any challenges and improve the sustainability of the agenda.
