The Vice President, H.E. Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia urged Narcotics Control Commission Officers to be disciplined, committed and professional to discharge their responsibilities and avoid being influenced by unpatriotic individuals acting primarily in their own self-interest to combat illicit drug trafficking and related organized crime.
‘Your service to Ghana must be your top priority and it is critical that you uphold the oath of allegiance, oaths of office and secrecy to help complement the Commission’s mission and vision and your graduation from this training school today signifies your readiness to serve,’ he said.
Dr. Bawumia was speaking was at the graduation and passing out ceremony of 78 Narcotics Control Commission CadetOfficers In-take seven who have been taken through mandatory basic narcotics cadet training programme to help boost the Commission’s manpower capacity in combating the country’s illicit drug menace at the Immigration Academy and Training School at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
He said trade facilitation is key to the development of every nation which Ghana is no exception and that government is in the process of procuring more K-9 dogs for the Commission to enhance its operations at the Kotoka International Airport and other relevant operational areas to facilitate trade.
H.E. the Vice President reiterated government’s continuous commitment to retool all the security agencies including the Narcotics Control Commission to protect the communities,borders, and in particular the youth who are vulnerable from the use and trade in the illicit narcotics trafficking.
He stated that the world drug problem requires international cooperation and collaboration in dealing with the transnational nature and also the international organized criminal gangs who are involved in the illicit trade and therefore Ghana willcollaborate with all relevant international bodies and organizations in dealing with the world drug problem.
Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, who described the Minister for the Interior as reliable and hardworking, commended him for his dedication and support in ensuring that the Interior Ministry is managed to consolidate the government’s policy direction.
He congratulated all the newly passed out NACOC officers for the training and hard work and urged them to continually seek excellence and give of their best as they enter the world of work.
