The Hon. Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery joined His Excellency, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and other officials for the 74th Anniversary of the 28th February 1948 Christiansburg Crossroad Shooting at the Nationalism Park, Osu in Accra.
The solemn flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony which is held every year is to honour the three ex-servicemen, Sergeant Adjetey, Cpl Attipoe and Private Odartey Lamptey who were killed in 1948 by the colonial police whilst matching to Osu Castle to present a petition to the then Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Sir Gerald Creasy.
H.E. the Vice President laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, the Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama also laid on behalf of the security services, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana, Maj. Gen. Clayton Yaachie (rtd), laid on behalf of the Veterans, the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, laid on behalf of Traditional Authorities and a representative of Sgt. Adjetey’s family laid on behalf of the fallen soldiers.
A parade contingent consisting of officers from the Ghana Army, Navy, Air force, Police and the Veterans Association of Ghana was in attendance. The ceremony was also witnessed by traditional authorities, students and some officials.
