The Hudai Foundation, a Turkish-based organization that has been actively involved in Ghana, particularly in constructing the Ghana National Mosque, donated food items to the Ghana Prisons Service for feeding inmates.
The donation, an annual gesture for inmates, included 160 bags of rice, 100 packs of oil, 33 cartons of tomato paste, 8 bags of sugar and 80 packs of spaghetti.
Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, received the items on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service and thanked the Foundation for their kind gesture.
He assured that the items would be used for their intended purpose and appealed to others to support the Ghana Prisons Service and take care of inmates, emphasizing that imprisonment is not a death sentence.
The Minister noted that prisons across the country face several challenges and it is through public support that the prisons can be improved and inmates treated with dignity.
