The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey has assured the Ambassador of the United States of America, Her Excellency, Virginia E. Palmer of Government’s continuous commitment to ensure a peaceful upcoming 2024 general elections in Ghana.
‘I can assure you of a peaceful and smooth general elections. His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given us the matching orders to ensure peaceful elections and we will do just that,’ the Minister stated.
Hon. Henry Quartey made these remarks when the American Ambassador called on him at his office at the Ministry in Accra to discuss matters of interest between the two countries.
He said an elections task force has been put in place to ensure peace and security for smooth elections and that the Ministry will soon roll out some activities to conscientise key stakeholders and the public on the need for peaceful and smooth elections because Ghana has done it in the previous elections and will do that again in the 2024 elections without any cause for alarm.
According to him, Government is creating an enabling environment for investors to come into the country for business to thrive and for development. Therefore, it is incumbent on the Government to ensure that, there is peace and security in the country to encourage businesses and investors.
The Minister also assured Government will continue to retool the security services to perform their duties well and professionally. He added that as a Ministry responsible for the maintenance of law and order in the country, he will do his best and put necessary measures in place to achieve the mandate of the Ministry.
Touching on American elections, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer stated that the upcoming elections will go well and America will remain victorious.
She thanked Hon. Henry Quartey for the visit and assured him of the Embassy’s readiness for support and collaboration in areas that will help and benefit all.
