The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has launched its Code of Conduct and Reporting Mechanism in Accra.

The Code of Conduct and Reporting Mechanism outlines the standard behaviour expected of Immigration Officers and also addresses how and where bad behaviours should be reported.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister for the Interior, the Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs. Adelaide Anno-Kumi stated that the Code of Conduct and Reporting Mechanisms of the Ghana Immigration Service will guide the Service in fostering discipline among Officers in the execution of the Service’s mandate for national development.

She stated that adopting the Code of Conduct and Reporting Mechanism sends a strong signal that the Ghana Immigration Service is committed to adhering to the highest standards of integrity because ethical behaviour is expected of all Officers.

According to her, there is a need to translate it into practical action and ensure that it is embedded in the overall ethics framework of the Ghana Immigration Service.

Mrs. Anno-Kumi added that the adoption of the Code of Conduct would be instrumental in promoting integrity, openness and transparency, among Officers of the Ghana Immigration Service.

The Chief Director entreated GIS to revamp and resource existing structures to ensure the successful, efficient and effective implementation of the Code of Conduct.

She charged the Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service to come out with slogans, visibly displayed in offices to put officers on their toes and serve as deterrents to prevent unethical behaviours.

The Code of Conduct and Reporting Mechanism was put together by the Ghana Immigration Service with support from the European Union and International Centre for Migration Policy Development.
