The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ambrose Dery (MP) has commissioned Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Covid-19 Testing Centre behind the Immigration Service Head Office in Accra.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ambrose Dery (MP) commended the GIS for their proactiveness and initiative in establishing the Covid-19 Testing Centre to support government’s efforts in tackling the pandemic in the country.
He said His Excellency President Akufo-Addo showed leadership by closing the airports and borders during the first wave of the pandemic to reduce the influx of the disease into the country. He noted that Ghana’s borders remained closed for the good of the citizens and that Ghanaians should not worry when the disease is adequately contained across the world, the borders will be opened.
The Hon. Minister said His Excellency the President will continue to provide leadership and direction to ensure that the covid situation is properly managed in the country and urged Ghanaians to continue to observe the covid safety protocols at all times to avoid contracting the disease.
He disclosed that government is putting mechanisms in place to produce the vaccines in Ghana so that all can be vaccinated against the disease. He, therefore, warned security officers at the borders to be vigilant and patriotic and not to allow foreigners into the country.
The Comptroller-General of GIS, Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, expressed his gratitude to the sector Minister for his leadership and continued support. He said by the nature of GIS’s work, it is very important to have such a facility to help in the covid-19 contact tracing and testing. He also said it will help Officers to know their status.
